Product versus evolutionary journeys

How many times, we have heard that products should be conceptualized as experiences. I was reviewing few decades of experience delivery in service, solution and product world. It seems experience tend to box us in certain space-time zone.

If we focus too much into experience, its relevance and it contextual connectedness, we tend to stick with what’s working and what’s selling.

Imagine iPhone taking a leap of faith and throwing away its most popular UI experience in favor of something you have never seen. Can Apple afford such a market risk?

If Apple with its billions of dollars cannot afford such a risk, then who can. Most popular products fall in that time based expiry zone. Hence the need of evolutionary journeys.

As Product architect, I could clearly see why insanely popular product will become not so cool in a decade. Imagine using old school big handheld devices in 2018. Does that sound arcane and out of time? Not so long ago, we envied those devices.

So how do you perceive an evolutionary journey via your Product story. Stay tuned for next post. Please share your experiences in terms what you think may happen to very popular products of today in ten years time..
